Day 7 -Brda Slovenia Wine Tasting: Rainy Day Adventures at Villas and Vineyards

Brda Slovenia wine tasting

We woke up to a very rainy day, so we were prepared for a more easy-going day. We enjoyed breakfast from Ester and Stefan and then relaxed in the room and caught up on our blogs. The area is so beautiful and there are lost to do when the weather is nice. Originally, we were planning on renting some bikes to explore the area.

Villa Vipolže

We left around lunchtime to the Villa Vipolže to see a restored villa that dates back to the 1100s. It has seen Venetian wars and then served as a hospital during WWI. There was a nice gallery on the top floor with art from Slovenians and other European countries as well. Our Brda Slovenia wine tasting was set for 2 pm.

We then made our way to the Patrick Simčič for the Brda Slovenia wine tasting experience. He’s an enthusiastic young grower who inherited grapes from his grandparents. We tried a sparkling, Sauvignonasse, orange wine (Sauvignonasse with the peel on for part of the process), a Cab, and a Merlot mix with Cab.

They were all so different, tasty, and smooth. We hoped to take some home, but shipping was going to be very expensive. It was a beautiful time surrounded by olive trees and grapevines. It was a perfect time to be there with ripe grapes all around for tasting here and there.

If you are hoping to get a taste of Patrick Simčič wine, you may find some prior years in Texas or New York, but he is no longer importing to the US. Your best bet is to either go to his Vineyard to do a wine tasting, or go to Italy, which is largest importer of his wines.

Back to the Farm

We then went back to the tourist farm and waited for dinner. Ester made an excellent Caprese salad, bean salad, chicken on the grill, and Slovene pasta with potatoes and ham inside. Afterwards, you brought out a light dessert that we enjoyed. Then when the rain finally subsided after dinner, we went out for a short walk before dark.

We saw a huge black and orange salamander on the trail who was right in the middle of the gravel path. He made his way into the grass and was on his way. Back at the farm, we cleaned up and got ready for bed. Though it was a bit of a lazy day, we were ready for bed. We needed it to catch up on some rest after so many daily activities.

For Tomorrow

We are leaving the tourist farm to make our way to a little hotel nestled on the rolling hills of inland Croatia. Honestly, Brda Slovenia wine tasting isn’t really our thing, but it is still a fun experience.  This place is just a stone’s throw away from the Parenzana trail. We will be on bikes again, which is Jason’s favorite activity of all the things we do here. Until then, keep exploring.
