Ravemen FR160/TR20 Lights
Gravel racing is starting to impose new rules intended to improve rider safety. Typically, gravel races are on open roads and usually have minimal road closures or crossing assistance. Though, most gravel races are in rural areas with little traffic, usually there are not many cars on these gravel roads.
A key safety feature that required by race promotors is that riders must use front and rear lights. But some races only require a rear light and front ones being optional. To meet these requirements and for my own safety I was in search of a bright front a rear light.
Besides a bright light that helps make me more visible, I am looking for a compact light that is lightweight too. Other features required are that the lights last up to 10 hours or more, have secure mounting systems, not be very bulky or heavy, and not occupy any space on the handlebars for the front light.
I am not typically a weight weenie, and I am a heavier rider, saving weight for races is important to me and I know it is important to people.
The front light is a bit more of a challenge than a rear light. Mounting to the seatpost or seat stays is quite simple and is not an issue with taking up space.
Most headlight are very bright, and only last about 1.5-2 hours on the bright setting and 3-4 hours on a flashing mode. These styles of headlights are too heavy and bulky for daytime use and racing. Thus, I am only looking for blinky lights and not a light for nighttime visibility.
A lot of the front lights on the market are bulky and take up valuable handlebar real estate and I wanted a light that would allow me to use my GoPro on my K-Edge out front mount.
Ravemen FR160/TR20 checks all the boxes.
FR160
The Ravemen FR160 must be one of the neatest ideas for a front light yet. It has a small frontal area, so it does not impact aerodynamics much. It is relatively lightweight, it is sleek, easy to use, provides a bright light for many hours, easy to install, and allows you to still use your cycling computer.
The Ravemen FR160 locks into your computer mount, using either Garmin or wahoo mounts (wahoo inserts sold separately). Once the FR160 is locked into play on your mount, there is a second quarter-turn mount on the top side of the light, allowing you to lock in your cycling computer on to the light.
Since the Ravemen FR160 is about 17 mm tall, it does move you cycling computer up, but it does not change the viewing angle. The 17 mm rise of the cycling computer is small, and it is hardly noticeable while riding your bike.
But for those riders that do not want to move your cycling computer upwards, there are solutions.
If you would rather mount the Ravemen FR160 on the underside of the mount, there is a third-party mount for that. The mount has the standard female Garmin/Wahoo mount on the topside and a made quarter-turn mount on the bottom side.
If you use an action camera, no worries!
There is an adaptor for that too. Using the female Garmin/Wahoo to GoPro adaptor you can have your computer, light, and action camera all on one mount.
This light allows for quite various installation options, and using various adaptors, all the devices can be securely mounted on the out-front mount. The GoPro adaptor allows for easy installation and removal of the GoPro which is great for getting different shots without fussing with the thumb screw.
The Ravemen FR160 has a wraparound light and provides about 180° visibility. But, when using the light with drop bars, the hoods extend out past the lights so there is a reduction of side visibility. Flat bars would not have this issue.
TR20
The Ravemen TR20 is probably on of the lightest taillights available. Even with as light as it is, it packs serious brightness. At only 20 lumens, it is highly visible even on a sunny day.
The TR20 provides various mounting options too. For maximum weight savings using the built-in hook and attach it to a jersey pocket of a loop on your saddle bag or hydration pack.
For a more permanent mounting solution use the provided mount and band to attach to your seatpost. The bracket has a swivel point that allows you to optimize the angle for best visibility no matter the bike.
The TR20 has five flash modes and will last up to 11 hours using the Pulse Flashing (not confirmed yet).
When using the mount for the TR20 and riding very bumpy terrain, the angle of the light changed. I was riding my gravel bike on some fast bumpy descents though. But, riding smooth roads, typical gravel or using a bike with suspension this is not an issue. Also, I will be tightening the mount and that should keep it from adjusting even on the bumpiest of descents.

Final Thoughts
The first time using the Ravemen FR160 and TR20 was a true test of durability for both devices. The Border Wars Gravel Race had creek crossings, rain, and abrasive sand flying everywhere. After 5 hrs of these conditions, the lights were still working perfectly.
I think soon, most race and ride promotors will make using lights mandatory. And once everyone is using lights, the extra weight of lights is null since everyone will be using them. For safety reasons, not that using lights are a failproof method will prevent all tragedies, they do increase your visibility especially on days with poor weather conditions.
I think the FR160 is a very clever solution to keeping your bars decluttered while also maintain all your bar space available. If you use a front handlebar bag this becomes even more important. For maximum visibility and night riding I would use their PR2400 light.
The TR20 is a lightweight taillight that provides good visibility day or night. It is easy to install, easy to use, and it securely attaches to the bike. For everyday riding and safety, I would take the extra weight and go with their brighter TR500 light that is only 77 g (hardly heavy). For racing, I was looking for minimal weight and the TR20 was the perfect solution for me.
Of course, the FR160 is a light meant for your own visibility, and not meant to provide light for you to see in dark situations. For night riding, a brighter light is necessary.
Though these are the only two products I have evaluated from Ravemen, they do offer brighter front (up to 2400 lumens) and rear (up to 500 lumens) lights. They offer light sets or individual light that work for road cycling, or mountain biking. I hope to review more of their lights and report back soon.
Ravemen makes high quality lights that stand up to tough weather conditions. They provide great safety in the form of making you highly visible. Check out their website for the full details. Stay safe and get some front and rear light even for daytime use if you are not using them yet.

Hi, you mention that there is an adaptor that allows you to attach the Ravemen FR160 under the Garmin mount. Could you please share the info for that adaptor? Justing to purchase it.
Hello Simon, thank you for checking out my review. The part I used under the garmin mount is KOM adapter. You can buy it separate or it comes with the mount. See link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09DJKDHZ1/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hi my new FR160 is fully charge but when I press the on button the light does not turn on.
Hello Estevan, Did you push and hold the button to turn it on? I hope that works. Thanks for reading.
